Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Women's Cross Country team returned to the course this morning to compete in their final race before the MASCAC Championship in two weeks, with a trip to the Western New England Invitational. The Lancer squad recorded 242 points to tie for 9th place behind the quick tread of Junior Leah Berg (Worcester, MA).
Berg crossed in a time of 25:33 to claim the top spot for Worcester and 33rd overall. First year Samantha Edward's (East Longmeadow, MA) would finish second for the Lancers in a time of 26:48 for 54th just ahead of fellow first year Cassandra Dirsa (Bolton, MA) who finished two places behind and just four seconds off of Edward's final time. Junior Kelsey Gendreau (Seekonk, MA) would grab the four place point for Worcester with her 65th place finish in a time of 27:27, while Junior Aubrey Tunnera (Marlborough, MA), in just her second race of her career, would finish in the fifth and final scoring spot in a place of 72nd and a time of 27:48, just over 20 seconds behind Gendreau.
Worcester State will now turn their focus to the MASCAC Championship that will be held on November 2nd before they journey to the DIII Regional Championship in a bid to claim spots in the NCAA tournament.
