Four Lancer Teams Kick Off Postseason Play This Week

WORCESTER, Mass. - The campus of Worcester State University will be a busy place this week, as four Lancer fall athletic programs will host home playoff games in the week ahead.

The Worcester State field hockey team kicks off the fun on Tuesday as the fourth-seeded Lancers host Western Connecticut State in the Little East Conference Quarterfinals at 4:30 p.m. The Lancers got the best of the Colonials when the teams met in the regular season, with a 3-1 victory on October 9.

The Worcester State men’s soccer team will follow right after the field hockey team, as the fourth-seeded Lancers take the field against Westfield State at 7 p.m. The two MASCAC rivals played to a scoreless double overtime draw when the teams met in the regular season.

The volleyball team clinched the number one seed in the MASCAC Tournament, and with it, a first round bye. The Lancers will play the winner of a quarterfinal matchup featuring Framingham State and Bridgewater State, with first serve scheduled for 6 p.m. With a victory, the Lancers own the right to host the championship match on Saturday.

The final team to kick off their postseason run this week will be the Worcester State women’s soccer team. The Lancers earned the top spot in the MASCAC Tournament, and also receive a bye into the semifinals, where they will host either Framingham State or Salem State. Kick off for that contest is scheduled for Friday night at 7 p.m.
