Mitjans took charge of the Blue and Gold in their quest to climb in the standings of the MASCAC for the 2025 season.  He had just completed a two year stint at Harvard University where, coaching the running backs, he helped lead the Crimson to a 1st place finish in the Ivy League where they finished ranked 19th in the FCS in points per game and 15th in yards per game in 2023. He was also previously with the Crimson for the 2021 season as an Offensive Quality Control Coach and helped lead the program to another first place finish in the Ivy League and a 22nd ranked finish in the FCS for points per game.  Mitjan’s  will provide strong local and out-of-state recruiting knowledge to the Lancers football program.

Prior to his second stop at Harvard, Mitjans was at Amherst College where he was responsible for recruiting and coaching the wide receivers. He also has had previous experience in the MASCAC serving in various roles during his two years at Massachusetts Maritime Academy including Offensive Coordinator, Running Backs and Wide Receivers Coach.

Lazaro Mitjans Jr., who will extend the family head coaching resume, began his coaching career as a Student Assistant Coach for the running backs at UMass- Amherst. Prior to his arrival at UMass-Amherst, he played football at Ashland High School. 

Mitjans graduated from UMass-Amherst in 2019 with a bachelor’s in Economics.
