
Worcester, MA- In their second season in the MASCAC, and one Championship already claimed, the Worcester State Field Hockey team was again picked first in the preseason coach’s poll. Worcester State won the inaugural field hockey championship, defeating Framingham State 2-0 at home to advance to face Williams in the NCAA tournament.
Worcester State finished with four first place votes for 24 points, and four first place votes, in this year’s poll. Worcester will see the return of MASCAC Second Team selection and captain, senior Madison Avilla, who recorded 16 points from the midfield, alongside junior MASCAC First Team Allison Keenan, who was a defensive strong hold in the back for the Lancers with one game winner and a defensive save on the season. The Lancers were 9-1 among the conference teams in 2023, with their only loss coming to Westfield State who claims the second seed in the poll with 22 points and two first place votes.
Framingham State rounds out the top three with 17 points followed by Fitchburg with 11, Bridgewater with nine and Salem State claiming six points.
The field hockey season gets underway August 30th-31st with all six MASCAC teams in non-conference action. Grab all the details at mascac.com and mascac.tv. The Lancers begin their season on the 31st when they host Clark University at noon.
