Box Score

Foxboro, MA --- Stonehill forward Andrew Diozzi (Belmont, MA) scored a pair of goals and classmate Tyler Jackson recorded his second shutout of the season to defeat Worcester State 3-0 at the Foxboro Sports Complex this evening in non-conference ice hockey action.

Diozzi put the Stonehill (4-6-1) up 1-0 just 54 ticks into the game as he scored on an assist by senior Zachory Cantin (Saugus, MA).

The Lancers (2-4) then held the Skyhawks off the board for the remainder of the period as they escaped near disaster when they had just three men on the ice after a trio of penalties towards the end of the frame. Senior Andrew Evans (Cromwell, CT), made a pair of key saves in the final two minutes of the stanza to keep the score right where it was.

The Stonehill would get some insurance in the second period when Diozzi tallied his second marker on a power play at 17:21.

For the rest of the contest, the Lancers defense nearly kept the game at 2-0 until freshman David Nelson (Concord, NH) sent in his first career goal with 49 seconds left for the final score with the extra man advantage.

Evans would finish with a season-best 36 stops as his record drops to 0-3 while Jackson scooped up 20 saves for the Skyhawks.

Despite allowing two power play markers, the Lancers were 2-for-8 in penalty kills while the Skyhawks were 0-for-5. Stonehill outshot WSC 29-14 in the first two periods and 10-6 in the final stanza.

The Lancers look for their first MASCAC win when they entertain UMass Dartmouth at 5:30 on Thursday while the Skyhawks travel to Southern New Hampshire as they continue their NE-10 slate on Saturday at 2 PM.
