Lancers, Cougars Battle to 1-1 Tie

Worcester, MA --- In the opening round of the Worcester City Tournament, Worcester State and host Clark University battled to a 1-1 tie in double overtime this evening at Granger Field. Both teams start off their seasons with identical 0-0-1 records.

The Cougars opened the scoring in the 14th minute when sophomore Baran Doenmez (Dublin, NH) scored on an assist by senior Mike Trobagis (Acton, MA).

The Lancers evened the score in the 21st minute. Senior Mark Johnson (Woburn, MA) headed a corner kick that was deflected by Clark netminder Peter Wise (Providence, RI) before Brian Andrade (Hudson, MA) knocked home the rebound tie the game at 1-1.

Both teams played tenacious defense as they would hold each other scoreless for the next eighty minutes of play as Clark held an 8-5 shot advantage to finish the game.

Lancer sophomore Daniel Hansen (Worcester, MA) turned aside four shots while Wise notched three saves.

Both teams will travel to WPI on Sunday to finish the Worcester City Tournament. In game one the Engineers will take-on the Lancers at noon while Anna Maria will face Clark at 2:30 PM.
