Men's Soccer Even's Out Record In Setback To RPI

RPI 2, Worcester State 0

Schenectady, NY --- Worcester State University dropped a 2-0 decision to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute this evening in the opening round of the Union College Classic as the Lancer offense was held to two shots in the entire contest.

With the loss WSU slips to 1-1 while the contest was the season opener for the Engineers.

RPI went on top early in the first half as senior Bryce Hutchinson (Elverson, PA) netted the first goal in the 11th minute before classmate Blake Adams (Cedar Grove, NJ) tacked on the second goal off of a rebounded free kick by fourth-year Ben Poser (Scotts Valley, CA).

Later on in the period the Engineers had chances to extend the lead, but junior Evan Wilga (Dudley, MA) stopped a shot that caromed off the crossbar in the 38th minute and again he stopped another attempt with five minutes remaining in the half.

The Lancers would have only one good opportunity to break the shutout and it came on a direct kick chance midway through the stanza, but freshman Alex Wofel's (Unionville, CT) shot was rejected out of the net.

Engineer senior Alex Penny (Northport, NY) recorded just one save in the win while Wilga collected five saves in the losing effort.

RPI held a 20-2 shot advantage and a 5-0 edge in corners.
