
MASCAC Men's Indoor Track Weekly Release
Springfield, MA --- Paced by sophomore Andrew Johnson's (Thompson, CT) second place leap in the high jump (1.94m/6-04.25), Worcester State tied for 15th place with 15 points at the Division III New England Indoor Championships hosted by Springfield.
Johnson would tie with Chris Genco of Bowdoin for the top-spot, but lose in a jump-off for the title.
Also earning All-New England honors was freshman Duy Truong (Worcester, MA/Doherty) also jumped fifth in the long jump (6.64m/21-09.50) while the 4x400 meter relay of junior Jon Parrella (Wilmington, MA), sophomores Ramses Rafael (Lawrence, MA), Kevin Maciel (Tewksbury, MA) and first-year Stephen Gannon (Mansfield, MA) placed sixth with a time of 3:27.24.
Truong was also 10th in the 60 meter hurdles (8.76), 15th in the 60 meters (7.23) and 17th in the triple jump (12.48m/40-11.50) as junior Todd Paquin (Pelham, NH) timed 10th in the 60 (7.19), 16th in the 200 (23.63) before leaping ninth in the long jump (6.39m/20-11.75).
In the field, junior Harrison McCann (Rutland, MA) was 15th in the shot put (13) and 17th in the weight throw (14.47m/47-05.75) as sophomore Matthew Begley (E. Bridgewater, MA) impressed with an 11th place toss of 14.23 meters (46-08.25). Freshman Daniel Ross (Foxboro, MA) also cleared 15th in the high jump (1.84m/6-00.50).
Senior Nick Capone (Billerica, MA) notched 19th in the shot put (13.33m/43-09) while junior Sebastian Bilentchuk (Mansfield, MA) and fourth-year Nathan Hawkins (Westminster, MA) were 13th (15.03m/49-03.75) and 16th (14.64m/48-00.50) in the weight throw, respectively.
Sophomore Jason Sliwoski (Leicester, MA) also placed ninth in the heptathlon with a total score of 3,691 points.
The 4x800 meter relay team of junior's Kerry Sabanty (Stoughton, MA), Greg Babiec (Worcester, MA/Doherty) and Tim Mazeika (Millbury, MA) and freshman Patrick Bova (Princeton, MA) rounded out the finishers with a time of 8:14.66.
At the USATF New England Indoor Championships, junior Andrew Garcia (Brea, CA) tied for 11th with a final height of 3.66 meters (12-0) at Harvard.
Next week select Lancers will compete at the Open New England Championships hosted by Boston University.
