WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester State University’s junior thrower Marcus Vieira (Peabody, Mass.) has earned his second Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) indoor field athlete of the week award for his outstanding record-breaking performance at the Tufts Invite #1 on Saturday (Jan. 13).

On Saturday, Vieira broke his own school record in the weight throw, as he threw for 18.71m (61-4.75) to finish second at the meet. A month ago, Vieira broke a school record with a distance of 18.42m at the Husky Invitational, trumping Sam Weeks who threw for 18.25m last year at Division III New England's. Presently, Vieira is ranked second on the national list in the weight throw.

Vieira also finished fourth in the shot put with a top throw of 13.94m (45-9) this past weekend.

The men’s track & field team returns to completion this weekend as they head to Springfield College on Saturday (Jan. 20).
