Men's Outdoor Track Takes Third At MASCAC Championships
 

Bridgewater, MA --- Paced by sophomore Terrence Gibson (Rockland, MA) who captured the MASCAC/Alliance title in the 100 meter hurdles with the seventh-fastest time in Division III this season, the men's outdoor track and field team placed third overall at the MASCAC/Alliance Championships hosted by Bridgewater State at Ed Swenson Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Lancers finished with 153 points in the five-team MASCAC standings. With 93 points, the Lancers placed fourth in the New England Alliance standings out of 11 squads at the meet.

The MASCAC/Alliance winning 4x100 meter relay team of sophomore Duy Truong (Worcester, MA/Doherty), senior Jon Parrella (Wilmington, MA), sophomore Stephen Gannon (Mansfield, MA) and second-year Matthew Alley (Milford, MA) also eclipsed the school mark to equal the 22nd best time in Division III with a split of 42.10.

Other individual MASCAC Champions included Parrella in the 400 meter hurdles (55.65) and junior Andrew Johnson (Thomson, CT) in the high jump (6-4/1.93) in a jump-off. The 4x400 meter relay team of Parrella, Gannon, sophomore Shaun Corum (Billerica) and senior Tim Mazeika (Millbury, MA) sprinted for a MASCAC-best time (3:23.60).

Truong was also finished in second place in the long jump (22-04.25/6.81m) as he was third in the triple jump (41-10.50/12.76m), the 100 meter hurdles (15.48) and 100 (11.22).

Gannon was the finalist in the 400 meters with a career-best time of 50.09 and fourth in the 200 (23.03) while junior Matthew Begley (E. Bridgewater, MA) tossed second in both the shot put (46-10.75/14.29m) and javelin (167-8/51.12m) before he added fifth in the hammer (144-3/43.98m).

Junior Kevin Maciel (Tewksbury, MA) notched third in the 400 meter hurdles (56.97) while Alley registered fifth in the 100 (11.48).

Sophomore Patrick Bova (Princeton, MA) added fifth in the 1,500 (4:11.26) as second-year Wesley Hebert (Leominster, MA) chipped in with sixth in the 10,000 (36:33.79) and junior Jason Sliwoski (Leicester, MA) had the sixth-best 110 hurdles time (16.09).

The 4x800 relay team of Bova, senior Kerry Sabanty (Stoughton, MA), freshman Marc George (Framingham, MA) and junior Connor O'Neill (Dudley, MA) combined for a time of 4:22.69.

In the field, sophomore Daniel Ross (Foxboro, MA) cleared third in the high jump (6-4/1.93). Junior Steve Fleming (Ludlow, MA), senior Andrew Garcia (Brea, CA) and Sliwoski all placed third (13-7.25/4.15m), fourth (13-1.50/4.00m) and fifth (12-07.50/3.85m) in the pole vault, respectively, while Garcia qualified for the Division III New England's next week.

Sliwoski had a fourth-place leap in the long jump (20-5.25/6.23m) and sophomore Matt Intrieri (Westerly, RI) had a personal-best mark of fourth in the shot put (43-05/13.23m).

Freshman James Brodeur (Milford, MA) and sophomore Mario De Jesus (Lawrence, MA) both finished fifth (162-5/49.51m) and sixth (160-3/48.85), respectively in the javelin while senior Sebastian Bilentschuk (Mansfield, MA) rounded out the group with sixth in the hammer (135-9/41.37m).

Next week the Lancers will compete at the two-day Division III New England Championships hosted by Colby.
