Softball Falls to Framingham in Opening Game of Double Elimination Play

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. - The Worcester State University softball team suffered an 8-0 defeat against Framingham State Thursday afternoon at Maple Street Field.

With the loss, Worcester State drops to 9-31 on the season, and moves into the losers' bracket of the MASCAC Tournament. They will play at Fitchburg State on Friday in an elimination game.

Worcester State struggled defensively in the first inning, allowing the first three batters of the game to reach on errors, as the Rams took a 4-0 lead after one inning.

The Lancers threatened in the top of the third inning, loading the bases with one out, but Framingham escaped the jam unscathed. The Rams would thne score twice in the bottom of the third inning, claiming a 6-0 lead.

Framingham scored single runs in the fourth and sixth innings to secure the shortened win 8-0.

Worcester State senior Katie Polselli (Charlton, Mass.) led the Lancers with two hits in the contest, including a sixth inning double. 

Junior Carly Zielinski (Monson, Mass.) took the loss for the Lancers going two innings allowing six runs, three earned, on four hits with three strikeouts.
