Worcester, MA-  The Lancers Women's Basketball team (2-15, 1-3) traveled to Framingham to continue their conference campaign. An impressive away win against Salem State was carrying the Worcester momentum into the afternoon battle with the Rams. The Lancers are looking for their third win and first winning streak to start as Framingham State comes into the match with a 14-2 record to add another level to the challenge.

The first bucket of the game for Worcester State would come from reigning MASCAC Rookie of the Week, Lena Waldon (Quincy, MA). Two free throws after a contested mid-range shot would send her to the foul line. The freshman would find her way to the hole and score a layup but the Rams were answering every success by Worcester. After the 7th minute in the quarter, the Rams took a ten-point lead they would hold onto for the remainder of the quarter. The absences of seniors Katie Hurynowicz (Tynsgboro, MA) and Nyah Thomas (Attleboro, MA) were certainly being felt on the court in today's game as each have been a strong presence on both sides of the ball all season.

The second quarter would see the Lancers rally back as first and second-year players took on a lot of the offensive burden. Sophomore forward Cam Watkins (Dracut, MA) stepped into the gap to help spark the offensive momentum. The Lancers also were seeing improved success in the rebound game in the hands of junior Abby St. Martin (Putnam, CT). St. Martin and Watkins worked their way around the court in a bid to keep the game within striking distance, sending the team into the half down just 12 points.  

In the return to the court after halftime both teams would aim to improve their finishing game, looking to see more shots drop to expand their scoring potential. The third quarter would imitate the 1st quarter with a strong focus on the play of the starting five on the court. The Lancers would work to slow the pace of the Rams while responding with shots and opportunities of their own. This strategy would carry over into the fourth quarter with the Lancers finding some late success in the paint. The Rams multiple runs though were too much for Worcester to overcome, dropping the match 83-55.

The Lancers now move to (2-16, 1-4) while Framingham sits at (15-2, 4-1). Worcester State returns to action next Wednesday, January 24th, when they host MCLA at 5:30pm.
