Women's Lacrosse Cages Becker, 14-5

Worcester, MA --- Junior Vicki O'Brien (Canton, MA) along with freshman classmates Jackie Connors (Ashland, MA) and Kalia Chase (Northbridge, MA) netted three goals apiece as the Lancers defeated Becker College, 14-5, in non-conference women's lacrosse action this evening at Coughlin Field.

The Blue and Gold (5-1) got off to an early 5-0 spurt through the first 20 minutes of play to set the tone for the game.

O'Brien started the uprising just 43 seconds into the contest as she was assisted on the play by Connors for the early 1-0 advantage.

Connors then contributed a score of her own before Chase took over to net three consecutive goals with the final strike came with 9:57 left to play in the half.

Becker (1-7) got on the board when junior Ashley Mossey (Ballston Lake, NY) found the back of the net with 8:31 on the clock.

The Lancers followed by rattling off three straight tallies sending the teams in to the locker room with the 8-1 edge. O'Brien and Connors netted markers at 4:48 and 2:28, respectively, before second-year Molly Kilday (Westford, MA) struck during a man down situation for her 15th score of the season.

The Hawks looked poised to start a comeback at the beginning of the second half scoring two quick goals cutting the deficit to five.

Junior Samantha-Jo Dilkes (Little Falls, NJ) potted the first marker at 27:04 before Mossey found the back of the net at 23:58 for the 8-3 score.

Worcester State answered right back with a 4-0 run getting themselves to within one goal of running time midway through the period with the 12-3 score.

However, Becker freshman goalkeeper Shelby Wicks (Shaftsbury, VT) was determined to keep the score right where it was as she made numerous tough stops keeping her team in contention.

Dilkes built off that momentum and after just over seven minutes of scoreless play she recorded two quick goals 49 seconds apart for the 12-5 score with 6:04 left in regulation.

But WSU tightened up their defense and added two late goals to cruise ahead for the victory.

Wicks was tough all night between the pipes turning away 17 shots in the defeat while Lancer senior Alex Chisholm (N. Brookfield, MA) recorded four saves in the triumph.

Kilday and first-year Marissa Irwin (Billerica, MA) each finished the game with a pair of goals.

Defensively, Chase and senior Stacey Doherty (Westford, MA) led the way in ground balls with seven and six, respectively, while Kilday recorded four draw controls and senior Daryl Powell (Beverly, MA) added three of her own.

Dilkes ended the night with a hat-trick and Mossey had an all-around solid effort recording a pair of goals to go along with four groundballs and three draw controls.

Worcester State outshot their opponents 36-18 in the contest and also led both in ground balls (46-22) and draw controls (13-8). The Lancers were also efficient in clears finishing the night 11-for-12 in the category.

Chase now leads the squad with 18 goals on the campaign while Connors leads in points (23). Kilday is just three points off the lead in third with 20.

Both squads return to action on Thursday as the Lancers remain at home to face-off with Colby-Sawyer at 7 PM in their final tune up before conference play begins this weekend. Becker returns home to take on Mass Maritime at 7:30 PM.
