Krajewski Tallies Four Goals in Women’s Lacrosse 10-7 Win over Colby-Sawyer

WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester State University's Kaylee Krajewski (Holyoke, Mass.) tallied four goals to help the Lancers defeat the Chargers of Colby-Sawyer by a score of 10-7 in a frigid Thursday evening non-conference matchup.

1ST HALF

Worcester State's Ashley Perugini (Watertown, Conn.) gave the Lancers the first lead of the game 32 seconds in. Nicole Lavigne (Berlin, Vt.) matched that five minutes later on a free position shot to knot the score at 1-1. With 20 minutes to go, Worcester State's Alexis Vecchiarelli (Agawam, Mass.) sparked a 3-0 run to push ahead 4-1. Lavigne added in two more tallies for the visitors on free position shots, and Krajewski slipped another in for Worcester to bring the score to 5-3 at the half.

 

2ND HALF

Colby-Sawyer's Briana Couture (South Hadley, Mass.) started the scoring in the second half on a free position shot to make it a one-point game. Krajewski added her fourth goal of the game just a minute later, and Taylor Dube (Milford, Mass.) recorded a goal to set the score to 7-4. With just under 20 minutes to go in the second half, Lavigne scored back-to-back goals to get the Chargers within one. However, Worcester State outscored the visitors 3-1 in the last 15 minutes of play for the 10-7 win.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Lavigne led all scoring with six goals. She also collected five ground balls, seven draws, and caused three turnovers. Five of her six goals were scored on free position attempts.
  • Worcester State's offense was driven by Krajewski who had four goals on the night. Kelly Austin (Brimfield, Mass.) and Dube each logged two goals apiece, while Perugini and Vecchiarelli had one each.
  • Coley Hayes (Norwood, Mass.) picked up seven ground balls, while Mackenzie Little (Marlborough, Mass.) grabbed six and earned a team-high three draws.
  • Worcester State's goalie, Chloe O'Brien (Sturbridge, Mass.) earned the win in net, as she stopped 8-of-15 shots on net.
  • Colby-Sawyer's Kailyn Lapham (Medway, Mass.) was tabbed the loss in a 10-save performance.
  • Worcester State outshot Colby-Sawyer, 30-23.
  • The visitors held the advantage in draws as Lavigne and Bailey Starr (Barre, Vt.) accounted for 11-of-12. Worcester State won seven draws.
  • Worcester State collected 29 ground balls, in comparison to Colby-Sawyer's 20. 

 

UP NEXT

The Lancers host Westfield State on Saturday (Apr. 21) for their senior day game. Colby-Sawyer also hosts its senior day on the same date against Maine Maritime Academy.
