BULLDOGS PROVE TOO MUCH FOR LANCERS

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Worcester State University Lancers fell to the University of Redlands (CA) Bulldogs by a score of 11-17 in women's lacrosse action on Monday night.

Redlands kicked off the scoring on a goal from senior attack, Celine Flaig (Redondo Beach, CA). Eleven seconds later Worcester's junior, Jessica McKenzie (Mendon, MA) tied the game on a feed from junior, Lily Gendron (Lakeville, MA). Worcester would extend the lead on goals from first-year, Hannah Erickson (Dunstable, MA) and junior attack, Shea Jarvis (Auburn, MA). Redlands', Flaig would score once more to close out the quarter at 3-2 in favor of the Lancers.

The second quarter provided back and forth action with Worcester's sophomore defender, Sarah Melanson (Wakefield, MA) opening up the scoring by sending the ball past Redland's goalkeeper, Charlie Baum (Hesperia, CA). However, the Bulldogs answered back with two consecutive goals tying the game at 4-4. Late in the quarter senior midfielder, Julia Ravenelle (Barrington, NH) would tally her first of the game with a feed from senior attack, Clare Conway (Billerica, MA). The goal would give Worcester the 6-5 lead headed into the 2nd half.

The Bulldogs proved to be an offensive powerhouse in the third quarter, led by Flaig who notched four goals in the quarter. Redlands registered eight consecutive goals in the 3rd, earning the Bulldogs a 13-6 advantage headed into the final stanza.

The Lancers had a strong 4th quarter push, outscoring Redlands 5-4. Worcester goals came from Erickson (2), Jarvis, Conway and senior defender, Abby Lauzon (Lakeville, MA). Despite the push, the Lancers were not able to cut into the deficit and ended the game down 17-11.

Worcester's goalkeepers Savanna Rosado (Milford, MA) had 8 saves on 17 shots, while first-year, Sofia Perivolotis (Littleton, MA) had 2 saves on 10 shots. Redlands' Charlie Baum had 12 saves on 23 shots.

The game marked the first of a two-game trip to California for the Lancers. The Lancers who will return to action on Wednesday night at Chapman University for a 10:00pm est. start fell to 3-2 with the loss, while Redlands improved to 2-4.
