2011 MASCAC Tournament Bracket

Fitchburg, MA --- Senior Danielle Clifford (Attleboro, MA) scored the lone goal of the contest off a rebounded shot to help lift Worcester State to a 1-0 triumph over Fitchburg State in MASCAC women's soccer action this afternoon at Elliot Field.

Worcester State (12-4-1, 5-2) has captured a share of the MASCAC regular season title with Westfield State and Bridgewater State. The crown marks the third regular season league championship. The Falcons wrap up their regular season at 10-5-2 overall and 4-3 in MASCAC play.

The top-seeded Lancers will entertain #4 Fitchburg State at 6 PM in the opening round of the conference tournament on Thursday.

After a scoreless first half which witnessed play mainly in the midfield, Worcester State finally broke the scoring silence midway through the second period in the 67th minute. The bid was initially started by junior Brianne Beckman (Lakeville, MA) who took a shot that was saved by sophomore keeper Jillian Kirouac (Leominster, MA), but Clifford was right there to send in her team-leading sixth marker of the season.

WSU held advantages in shots (20-7) and a 7-2 edge in corners. Beckman added her squad-best sixth helper on the game-winning tally.

Senior Angieszaka Sychtysz (Warren, MA) posted her fifth shutout between the pipes as she collected four saves in the victory. Kirouac turned aside 11 shots for the Falcons.
