Women's Soccer, Colby-Sawyer Play To 1-1 Draw

New London, NH --- Colby-Sawyer College and Worcester State University played to a 1-1 tie, in nonconference women's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon.

Colby-Sawyer's record goes to 10-2-4 after playing in their fifth double overtime game of the season. Worcester State goes to 6-6-2.

After a scoreless first half, both offenses started to get more chances on net in the second frame. The Lancers broke through in the 70th minute when senior Brianne Beckman (Lakeville, MA) took a feed from junior Gaby Gonet (Agawam, MA) and ripped a shot into the opposite corner of the net.

The goal was Beckman's team-leading 11th on the season.

Colby-Sawyer knotted the game at 1-1 in the 85th minute. Junior Stephanie Huntley (Woodbury, CT) was under pressure 12 yards out when she got a shot off. The ball was not struck crisply as the defender was bearing down, but it managed to sneak by the dive of Worcester State goalie Mia Koutoulas (Danvers, MA).

The teams had equal opportunities in the extra sessions, but neither side could break the tie.

Koutoulas made two saves for Worcester State, while Colby-Sawyer senior keeper Shay Spencer (Natick, MA) stopped 12 Lancer shots.

Worcester State held a 20-10 edge in shots.

The Chargers return to North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play with a 5:00 pm game at Husson on Saturday.

Worcester State continues to MASCAC action on Saturday with a 10:00 AM home game against Fitchburg State.
