Women's Tennis Falls To Southern Maine, 9-0

Gorham, ME --- The University of Southern Maine Huskies women's tennis team did not drop a single set en route to a 9-0 win over the Worcester State University Lancers in a Little East Conference tennis match Saturday afternoon.

With their second straight win in as many matches, the Huskies improve to 8-7 overall and finish above .500 in the Little East Conference regular season with a 5-3 record.  The loss drops the Lancers record to 3-8 overall and 0-6 in the Little East Conference.

Sophomore Mary Moran (Windham, ME) led the Huskies from the top of the line-up earning a solid 6-2, 6-2 win at first singles defeating Worcester State freshman Taylor Tomasetti (Waterford, CT). 

Sophomore Emily Boutin (Old Town, ME) took a resounding 6-0, 6-0 win at second singles in a win over Lancer sophomore Brooke Michanczyk (Middletown, CT) for her seventh singles victory of the season.  

Junior Ali Hartley (Boothbay Harbor, ME) earned her team-leading ninth victory of the season, picking up a hard-earned 6-4, 6-2 win at fourth singles. Hartley defeated Worcester State sophomore Laura Sarkis (West Springfield, MA) to improve to 9-6 on the season. 

WSU freshman Lisa Higgins (Pembroke, MA) was defeated in a tough-fought sixth singles match, with a score of 6-2, 6-3 by sophomore Leah Churchill (Cumberland, ME).

Worcester State will travel to Western Connecticut on Tuesday for their last match of the season at 4 PM while Southern Maine will compete in the first round of the 2011 Little East Conference Championship beginning Tuesday.
