Women's Tennis Falls To Bridgewater State, 9-0

 

Bridgewater, MA --- Bridgewater State took all six singles matchups and all three doubles points to sweep Worcester State, 9-0, in Little East women's tennis action this afternoon.

With the win the Bears remain unbeaten (3-0, 2-0 LEC) while the Lancers slip to 1-2 in thier Little East Conference opener.

Junior Jenna Williamson (Ludlow, MA), senior Ashley Pereira (Assonet, MA), classmate Brittney Hislop (Burley, WA), freshman Alison Vautrin (Somerset, MA) and sophomore Melissa Flynn (Stoneham, MA) all won their singles matchups by four or more points in consecutive sets.

The closest matchup was in the fifth flight between sophomore Miranda Biron (Webster, MA) who battled senior Lauren Hopp (Dartmouth, MA) in the first set to the 6-4 defeat before she fell in the final set, 6-1.

Hopp and Williamson teamed to defeat sophomore teammates Taylor Tomasetti (Waterford, CT) and Danielle Candelieri (Chelmsford, MA), 8-0, at first doubles.

At second doubles, Pereira and Hislop defeated freshman Megan Shepard (Middletown, CT) and junior Brooke Michanczyk (Middletown, MA) were handed an 8-4 defeat while Biron and junior Laura Sarkis (W. Springfield, MA) both lost to Vautrin and sophomore Rachel Eramo (Rowley, MA), 8-4, at third doubles.

Worcester State has a busy week hosting Becker at Assumption on Tuesday (3:30 PM), Anna Maria at 3 o'clock at a site to be determined on Thursday and Wentworth at 1 PM at Clark on Saturday.

After Bridgewater State entertains Suffolk at 3:30 on Tuesday they will play at the Newport Grass Doubles Tournament ion Saturday.
