Women's Tennis Drops 7-2 Decision To Plymouth State

 

Plymouth, NH --- Plymouth State senior Sara Burke (Barrington, RI) posted a pair of victories in her final collegiate regular season home game as she helped lead the Panthers to a 7-2 triumph over Worcester State in LEC women's tennis action at the PE Center Courts. 

Burke teamed up with junior Molly Heartfield (Dorset, VT) for an 8-3 victory at first doubles and came back with a 6-0, 6-2 triumph at top flight singles.  

Heartfield and classmate Jane Duggan (Saunderstown, RI) were also double winners for the Panthers.  Heartfield was a straight-set winner at second singles and Duggan was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at fifth singles after teaming with third-year Chelsea Thibeault (Manchester, NHl) for an 8-2 decision at third doubles.

Panther freshmen Nitsa Ioannides (El Cajon, CA) and classmate Andra Dion (Ashland, NH) also registere singles wins at third and fourth singles, respectively, after being defeated together at second doubles by second-year Miranda Biron (Webster, MA) and freshman Megan Shepard (Middletown, CT), 8-6.

Worcester State junior Laura Sarkis (West Springfield, MA) was the other point-scorer for Worcester State as she earned the 7-6 (7-1) and 6-0 win at third singles. Sarkis is now 3-2 in LEC as the sixth seed and 6-4 overall 

PSU wraps up the regular season next week with road matches at Franklin Pierce on Thursday and the University of Massachusetts Boson on Saturday. Worcester State returns home to host the Beacons in a key-matchup on Wednesday at Clark University (3:30 PM).
