Chude Grabs Division III New England Honors In Pentathalon

Gorham, ME --- Freshman standout Cathy Chude (Marlboro, MA) notched eighth place with 2628 points in the Pentathalon for Division III New England honors as she had four top ten finishes in the five event course. Chude adds one point to the Lancers total which will be included in tomorrow's final Division III New England standings.

Classmate Kayle McElroy (Rutland, MA) also placed 12th for WSC out of a field that included 23 competitors. MIT junior Hazel Briner (Arlington, MA) won the event as she tallied 3379 points as she was one of three athletes to qualify for the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships.

Chude had the second-best finish in the shot put (10.93 meters), the third-best time in the 55 meter hurdles (9.10), fourth highest in the high jump (1.47 meters) as her long jump distance (4.57 meters) was good enough for the top eight. Chude capped off her day with a time of 3:13.40 in the 800.

McElroy recorded 9.34 in the 55 meter hurdles, 1.26 meters in the high jump, 9.84 meters in the shot put, 4.50 meters in the long jump and a solid finish of 2:43.13 in the 800. McElroy placed fourth best in the shot put while her time in the hurdles was tenth overall.

All regular events will start tomorrow morning at the University of Southern Maine. Results will be posted following the meets conclusion.
