Kralian Provisionally Qualifies For NCAA DIII Indoors In Long Jump

Durham, NH --- Junior Mara Kralian (N. Grafton, MA) helped lead the Worcester State women's indoor track and field team to a fourth place finish at the University New Hampshire Invitational. Kralian took home first to provisionally qualify for the Division III Indoor Meet while she also placed second in the 55 meter dash (7.43).

The Lancers scored 94.5 team points in the four-team meet featuring the hosting Wildcats, Holy Cross (183.5) and Stonehill.

Freshman Kristen Wilson (Tewksbury, MA) placed second in the high jump to stamp her ticket to the Division III New England Championships (1.54 meters) while classmate Hannah Werneth (S. Yarmouth, ME) tossed third in the shot put (11.08 m). Wilson also jumped seventh in the triple jump (5.87m) as junior Sarah Rafferty (Uxbridge, MA) recorded 12th in the long jump (4.59m).

Sophomore Kristen Brunelle (Dracut, MA) notched sixth in the shot put and senior Christina Bisbee (North Attleboro, MA) posted a distance of eighth in the weight throw (12.62m). Rookie Marlene Christenson (Danvers, MA) added ninth in the shot put (9.70m) and 11th in the weight (11.10m).

First-year Amanda Holden (Lunenburg, MA) had a leaped third in the triple jump (10.27m) and sixth in the high jump (1.49m) as classmate Megan Taylor (Danvers, MA) added fourth in the 400 (63.74). Freshman Gaby Gonet (Agawam, MA) cleared fifth in the pole vault with a height of 2.30 meters.

Freshman Alison Hickey (Easton, MA) also qualified for the DIII New England Championships by taking fourth in the 800 (2:28.50) while her sophomore teammate Brittany Grueter (Foxboro, MA) wasn't far behind in eighth (2:37.46). Grueter also capped off her meet by finishing in 11th in the 3,000 (11:24.37).

Second-year Erin Donohue (Saugus, MA) timed ninth in the mile (5:34.28) and the 1,000 (3:20.98) as junior Maura Withington (W. Palm Beach, FL) placed 10th in the 1,000 (3:23.78).

Freshman Heidi Bezemes-Turner (Beverly, MA) rounded out the competators as she registered ninth in the 200 (28.47).

Kralian's distance in the long jump was six inches off tying the school record. For her efforts, Kralian was named the MASCAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week.

Next week the Blue and Gold will run again at MIT in Cambridge.
