Kralian Leads Way At Alden Invitational For Women's Indoor Track

Providence, RI --- Senior Mara Kralian (N. Grafton, MA) had a stellar day as she qualified for the Open New England's in the 55 meter run with a time of 7.39, eclipsed the school record in the 300 meter run (43.15) and added a top finish in the long jump (5.17 meters/16-11 ft) to help lead Worcester State at the Alden Invitational hosted by Brown. 

The first meet of the season was primarily against Division I competition.

Sophomore Hannah Werneth (N. Yarmouth, ME) tossed fourth in the shot put (11.76m/38-7) for fourth place as classmate Megan Taylor (Danvers, MA) clocked 1:44.09 for eighth in the 600. Both finishes were ECAC standards.

Junior Erin Donohue (Saugus, MA) added second to qualify for the DIII New England's in the 3,000 (10:42.42). In the 55 meter hurdles sophomore Christy Deininger (N. Attleboro, MA) clocked 8.98 for fourth while first-year Amanda Caldarone (Danvers, MA) notched sixth (9.27) for a pair of DIII New England times.

Deinger added eighth in the 55 (7.56) and Werneth placed seventh in the weight throw (11.40m/37-4.75).

In the field, Calderone and freshman teammates Alexandria McMahon (E. Longmeadow, MA) and Therese Morss (Marion, MA) both finished fifth (4.89m/16-0.50) and sixth (4.73m/15-6.25), respectively, in the long jump as first-year Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) threw fifth in the shot put (11.23m/36-10) and classmate Alana Fish (Woburn, MA) was eighth in the weight throw (9.47m).

Sophomore Amanda Holden (Lunenburg, MA) and rookie Brittany Hodgerney (Leicester, MA) took the fourth (10.27m) and fifth (10.17m/31-0.75) spots in the final triple jump standings. Holden and Morss both timed ninth (9.39) and 10th (9.54), respectively, in the 55 meter hurdles.

In the one mile run, sophomore Kelsey Cartwright (Bridgewater, MA) and freshman Chelsey Peso (Uxbridge, MA) were two seconds apart in seventh (5:43.39) and eighth (5:45.38) as first-year Kim West (Harvard, MA) finished 12th in the 600 (1:47.23).

The 4x400 meter relay team of Hodgerney, McMahon, West and Taylor wrapped up the meet with a solid time of 4:12.80 for fifth place.

Kralian's new 300 meter mark broke an 18-year record (44.8) that was previously held by Lancer Hall of Famer Elke Aun and it was set at Brown on 12/16/93.

Next week the Blue and Gold will close their first semester meet docket at the Harvard Open.
