Wise Eclipses 300 Meter Mark To Propel Women's Indoor Track At Harvard Open

Cambridge, MA --- Senior Briana Wise (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) stamped her place in the Worcester State record book as she clocked a time of 41.73 in the 300 meters to help lead the women's indoor track and field team at the non-scoring Harvard Open on Saturday afternoon.

The meet featured solid competition from several Division I, II and III schools as well as other local track clubs.

With eighth overall, Wise set her fourth individual school mark as she eclipsed the previous best that had been established by former standout Mara Kralian last season at Harvard. She also placed 15th in the 55 (7.40).

Junior Christy Deininger (N. Attleboro, MA) lit the track on fire with fourth overall in the 55 meter hurdles (8.46), 12th in the 200 (26.84), and 14th in the 55 (7.39). Deininger stamped her ticket to the ECAC Division III Championships with her time in the 200.

Other Division III New England Championship qualifiers included senior Nicki Lemelin (Beverly, MA) in both the 200 (17th – 27.19) and 55 (23rd – 7.53), junior Megan Taylor (Danvers, MA) in the high jump (4th – 1.55m/5-1) and the 400 (7th – 1:00.84).

Lemelin's time was just 0.01 of a second off from the ECAC standard and Taylor's leap in the high jump marked a personal best.

Freshman Emily Riehl (Trumbull, CT) and second-year Alexandria McMahon (E. Longmeadow, MA) also added their names to the DIII Indoor New England list with 11th (1:02.10) and 13th (1:03.31), respectively.

In the field, sophomore Casey Keedy (Northampton, MA) notched fifth in the high jump (1.50m/4-11) and classmate Amanda Caldarone (Danvers, MA) registered eighth in the long jump (5.22m/17-01.50).

Junior Hannah Werneth (N. Yarmouth, ME) rounded out the squad with 12 th in the shot put (11.05m/36-03).

The Blue and Gold take a month off before they participate in the Tufts Snowflake Invitational on January 12th.
