Women's Indoor Track has Strong Showing at River Hawk Invitational

Worcester, MA- The Women's Indoor Track sent a small contingent of athletes to the New Balance Track to compete in the River Hawk Invitational on Friday. The meet combined programs from across all divisions, as well as allowing for open athletes to compete in a myriad of events.

Senior Elena Pellegrini (Ashland, MA) competed in the 200m event along with fellow senior Maureen Grady (Douglas, MA) in a highly competitive event. Pellegrini had a stellar finish at the meet placing 42nd overall and 2nd in Division III competitors at the meet, in a time of 27.37 seconds for her fastest time this season in the 200m. Finishing just under 6 tenths of a second behind Pellegrini, Grady, who was the 6th Division III representative to cross, finished with a time of 27.92.

First Year Erin Condon (East Bridgewater, MA) traveled to Boston looking for another top time in the 400m. Condon raced against a wide pool of talent that was majoritively made up of Division I runners to finish in 37th place with a time of 1:05.05.  Junior Nina Fonteix (Elancourt, FR) also picked up the challenge in her 800m race, finishing as the 6th DIII runner across the line, and in an impressive 49th place, crossing the finish line in a time of 2:34.27. This sets a new season record for Fonteix in the 800m.

Competing for the first time as a relay team in a meet this season, the 4x400 team to the track and finished in a time of 4:20.86 and was only one of two Division III teams to compete in the event.

The Lancers Track team is back in action next Thursday as they head back to the New Balance Track to compete in the All New England Championships.
