Lancers Compete at UMass Dartmouth Invitational

North Dartmouth, MA --- Freshman Brittany Grueter (Foxboro, MA) helped the women place 29th out of 42 schools while classmate Alex Droby (Uxbridge, MA) aided the men's cause as they finished 31st out of 37 as both cross country teams competed on Saturday afternoon at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational.

Grueter, sophomore Meg Plant (Franklin, MA) and first-year Erin Donohue (Saugus, MA) each crossed the line inside the top 200 as they placed 112th (20:37), 119th (20:43) and 134th (20:58), respectively. Sophomore Molly Gates (Worcester, MA/Doherty) added 239th (22:49) while freshman Kristina Richard (Peabody, MA) wasn't far behind in 244th (22:53) and senior Adrienne Fisher (Wilmington, MA) rounded out the squad in 257th (23:45).

Droby and freshman Tim Mazeika (Millbury, MA) built on strong performances from last week as they finished a second apart in 154th (28:34) and 157th (28:35). Sophomore Justin Hunt (Rutland, MA) placed 191st (29:20) while freshman Steven Levesque (Salem, MA) notched 205th (29:58). Senior Norman Everett (W. Bridgewater, MA) registered 217 while Greg Babiec (Worcester, MA/Doherty), Eric Thulin (Millbury, MA) and James Walker (Tyngsboro, MA) each took 230th (31:27), 235th (31:49) and 245th (34:04), respectively.

There were 301 competitors overall on the women's side as the Lancers finished second among the three MASCAC schools in attendance while there were 262 male entrants. Keene State was the top finisher for the men while MIT won gold for the women.

Worcester State's next meet will be the annual Worcester City Meet up at Paxton, MA. The women's race will start at 10:30 while the men's starting gun goes off at 11:15.
