Women's Cross Country Places Second in Worcester City Meet

Paxton, MA --- Junior Brittany Grueter (Foxboro, MA) keyed Worcester State with a finish of third overall (21:33) to pace the Lancers to second place at the Worcester City Meet this morning at Moore State Park. WSU had five of the top twelve finishers in the race.

WPI won the five-kilometer event registering 28 points followed by Worcester State's (43), Clark (54), Framingham State (117), Fitchburg State (134) and Anna Maria (183). Junior Vicky Hewey of WPI won the event for the third consecutive time as she clocked 20:32.

Junior Erin Donohue (Saugus, MA) placed in eighth (21:46) while sophomore Ali Barrett (Hingham, MA) finished in ninth (21:49). Freshmen Jennifer Cardinal (Chicopee, MA) and Chelsey Peso (Uxbridge, MA) finished in 11th and 12th places, respectively, with times of 21:56 and 21:59.

Sophomore teammates Kelsey Cartwright (Bridgewater, MA) placed in 16th with a time of 22:19 and Jenna Pickard (Peabody, MA) rounded out the WSU harriers with 27th place finish (23:29).

Worcester State's next meet will be next Saturday at CCRI's Tri-States Championship held in Lincoln, RI.
