UMass-Boston Powers through Worcester State

BOSTON, Mass. – UMass-Boston held Worcester State to five hits and one run in the Beacon's 12-1 victory over the Lancers Thursday evening at Monan Park.

UMass-Boston's Dave Murphy (Plymouth, Mass.) allotted the Beacon's a run to start the game on an RBI double to left center, scoring Josh Lopez (New Haven, Conn.) at the plate for an early 1-0 lead.

The Beacons added to their lead in the bottom of the 3rd when they scored three runs on two hits and to Lancer errors. They then added four more on four hits in the 4th to take the 8-0 advantage over the Lancers.

Worcester State brought their first run in during the 6th inning on an RBI single up the middle from John Boyd (Worcester, Mass.), which would in turn be their only run of the game.

UMass-Boston held the Lancers to their sole run for the remainder of the game, as they plotted three more runs in the bottom of the 8th, resulting in a 12-1 victory for the Beacons.

UMass-Boston's Dan Mantoni (Northbridge, Mass.) went 2-for-2, while Murphy and Lionel Danielson (St. Croix, Virgin Islands) went 3-for-4. All three of Murphy's hits were doubles, which landed him three RBI as well. Starting pitcher, Fernando Burgos (Hyde Park, Mass.) registered the win, while Worcester State's Tyler Barrie (Oxford, Mass.) ached the loss for the Blue and Gold.

The Lancers return to action tomorrow, where they will face up against Roger Williams University at the New England Baseball Complex in Northborough.
