Peloquin Steps Down as Head Football Coach;  Zach Besaw Named Interim Head Coach

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Athletic Department announces today that Head Coach Adam Peloquin will be stepping down as the Head Football Coach. Peloquin will remain with the program until August 16th before stepping down and accepting a position outside of Worcester State University that is better suited for his work-life balance. Zach Besaw has been tabbed as the interim Head Coach for the 2024 season.

"I am grateful for the hard work and dedication of our student-athletes and coaches as we worked to rebuild the Worcester State football program" states Peloquin. "I'd like to thank Michael Mudd for the opportunity to lead this team. I wish them nothing but the best going forward."

Besaw started with the Lancers in 2014 as a student video coordinator for the team before moving onto become a student assistant coach and ultimately defensive assistant coach for the corners and defensive backs for Worcester.

"I am excited and grateful for the opportunity", says Besaw, "and I am looking forward to working with our players and coaches to make this season a success."

Worcester State Football is scheduled to report for training camp on August 16th under Besaw, with their first game set for September 6th at 7pm versus WPI.

I am very appreciative of Zach Besaw stepping up to take over the reins as head coach this season. Zach has been a loyal and hard- working member of our coaching staff for quite some time and I am confident that he will provide a strong continuity within to our football program and provide the best experience for our student-athletes."

Worcester State will conduct a national search for the new Lancers Head Coach in early fall.
