Brewster, MA --- Junior captain Bob Bruso
(Auburn, MA) finished in 17th and fourth overall in Division III
New Engalnd as he carded a two-day total of 148 to help lead the
Worcester State mens golf team at the NEIGA Championships at
Captains Golf Course. Bruso was second overall with a score of 148
(+4) on the first day with a 69 (-3) before he fired a 79 (+7) on
the second day of competition.
The other top finishers in Division III included Nick Antonelli
(North Andover, MA) of Salem State (143; -1), Reid Longley
(Atlanta, GA) of Trinity (146; +2), Pasquale Pio (Somers, CT) of
Nichols (146; +2) and Aaron Cusato (San Diego, CA) of Brandies
(+5). Bruso and Pio each selected to the All-New England Division
III team last year.
Jason Thresher of Bryant led the finishers as the individual
champion while UConn took home the team title.
The Lancers ended the two-day tournament in 33rd place and 17th
overall in Division III New England with a score of 678. Nichols
shot four strokes higher and finished in 15th and fourth overall in
DII.
Other finishers for WSC included senior Dave
Urella (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) who tied for 156th (173;
+29), junior Mike Horan (Billerica, MA) who tied
for 177th (181; +44) and third-year Mike Leveroni
(Arlington, MA) who tied for 181st (183; +45).
Freshman Chris Ellis (Worcester, MA) rounded out
the pack as he shot three strokes lower on the second day. He tied
for 173rd (179; +35).
The NEIGA Championships round out the fall for the men's golf team
who will start off competition again next spring.
