Framingham State Blanks Ice Hockey, 2-0

 

Framingham, MA --- Framingham State snapped a seven game winless streak this evening with a 2-0 shutout victory over Worcester State in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men's ice hockey action at Framingham's Loring Arena.

With the win, the Rams improve to 2-9-3 on the season and 2-6-2 in the conference, while the Lancers fall to 6-8-2 overall and 3-6-1 in the MASCAC.

Sophomore Tom Tracy (Wakefield, MA) tallied the game winner just 1:34 into the contest as he scored his first of the season.  Sophomore Jay Nicholls (Middleton, MA) and freshman Dylan Cosford (Windsor, Ontario) assisted on Tracy's tally and what proved to be the game winner.

The Rams would extend their lead to 2-0 with an insurance goal midway through the first.  Sophomores Daniel Miressi (Monroe, CT) and Eric Ward (Haverhill, MA) set up classmate Bo Driscoll (Chelmsford, MA) for his 5th of the season.  Miressi leads the Rams in scoring this season with 14 points including 11 assists.

That would be all the scoring in the game as both goaltenders played flawless the rest of the way.  Sophomore Nick Cafrelli (San Jose, CA) picked up his second victory of the season making 31 saves, while senior Bryan Kalczynski (Tonawanda, NY) made 28 despite picking up the loss.  The Lancers held a slim 31-30 advantage in shots for the game.

The Rams held on the for the shutout victory late in the game as they continuously applied offensive pressure and did not allow Worcester State to pull the goalkeeper for the extra skater in the closing minutes.

The Rams return to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Franklin Pierce University in a non-conference game at 2:30 p.m., while the Lancers travel to MASCAC leader Plymouth State on Saturday at 6 p.m.
