Men's Soccer Silences Fitchburg State, 2-0

Fitchburg, MA  --- The Fitchburg State men's soccer team suffered a tough 2-0 defeat to Worcester State College in MASCAC action this afternoon at Elliot Field.

Senior Brian Andrade (Hudson, MA) led the Worcester State scoring attack with one goal in the contest, while senior Daniel Hansen (Worcester, MA) earned his third shutout of the season with seven saves in net.

Worcester State opened the scoring mid way through the first half as Andrade connected for his eight goal of the season in the 24th minute. Andrade dribbled past the Fitchburg State defense and put a nice touch on net to register the unassisted score.

Worcester State gained a 2-0 advantage in the 40th minute of the contest as Fitchburg State allowed an own goal off a Lancer throw-in.

Both teams had several scoring opportunities throughout the match as each team registered 14 shots, but Worcester State used its 5-2 advantage in corner kicks to pressure the Falcon defense. Junior goaltender Matt Carey (Stratford, CT) stopped six shots for the Falcons in the complete game effort.          

Fitchburg State (4-2, 0-1 MASCAC) is back in action on Wednesday as it travels to Johnson and Wales University at 6 p.m. Worcester State (4-1-2, 1-0 MASCAC) will host Keene State College on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
