Bridgewater, MA -- Junior midfielder Stephen Sciara's (Scituate, MA) goal in the 71st minute of play lifted the Bridgewater State College Bears to a 1-0 victory over Worcester State in a MASCAC men's soccer match this afternoon in Bridgewater.

Bridgewater State improves to 9-1-2 on the season as the Bears have now won five straight games and are unbeaten in their last nine.  Ranked tenth in New England Division III, the Bears also remain undefeated in conference play with a 3-0-1 mark.

Worcester falls to 4-7-2 overall and 1-3 in the MASCAC as they saw there three-game winning streak against the Bears come to an end.

Sciara broke the scoreless tie off a nice feed from senior forward Jon Nutting (Rockland, MA).  From the top of the 18, Nutting fed a pass to a streaking Sciara cutting towards the goal from the left side.  Sciara drilled a one-timer past the diving Worcester keeper and inside the far right post for his third goal of the season.

BSC's defense stymied the Worcester attack all game long as the Bears limited the Lancers to just three shots, only one of which was on frame.  Senior goaltender Ryan Seifert (Ludlow, MA) was forced to make just one save which came early in the first half.  Seifert (9-1-1) notched his fifth shutout of the season and lowered his goals against average to an impressive 0.62.

The Bears outshot the Lancers to the tune of 21-3, while also holding a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks. Worcester State senior netminder Daniel Hansen (Worcester, MA) made eight saves in goal for the Lancers who have scored just one goal in their last six games.

Bridgewater returns to the pitch tomorrow afternoon at 2 PM as the Bears travel to Eastern Connecticut State University for a non-conference match with the Warriors.  Worcester looks to get back on track next Wednesday as the Lancers travel to Becker College for a 7 o'clock game with the Hawks.
