Dedo Recognized On All-Sportsmanship Team

Westfield, MA --- Senior Kyle Venne (Ludlow, MA) and freshman Joshua Evans (Springfield, MA/Sabis) both earned a spot on the All-MASAC men's soccer Second-team in a vote by the leagues eight head coaches as announced by league publicist Emily Diekelmann.

The honor for Venne marked the second time in his career that he was distinguished with conference honors as he earned laurels in 2012. He netted one goal – a late game-winning tally in a 1-0 triumph over Salem State on October 18 – and chipped in with one assist for a total of three points.

Evans led the MASCAC with six assists to finish out his first-year as a Lancer with six points. Two of his helpers came in a victory against Framingham State and he had the dish on Venne's deciding goal against Salem.

Starting in nearly every game on the back line, the pair helped the Lancers finish with the second lowest goals allowed sum (22) and the second fewest markers yielded in MASCAC play (7). In their seven league games, the Lancers teamed up for a trio of shutouts, including a scoreless draw against Mass Maritime, who finished the season in second place.

Senior net minder Emil Dedo (Korca, Albania) also earned a spot on the MASCAC men's soccer sportsmanship team for his positive and upbeat attitude during the season and against conference opponents.

Dedo was at his best during league matches between the pipes as he went 2-2-1, permitting only two goals and finishing the year with a 0.38 goals against average in 475 minutes.

Worcester State ended the season with a 5-10-2 overall record and a 2-4-1 slate against league opponents. This campaign marked only the second time in the five years that Jason Willis has been the head coach that the Lancers did not qualify for the league tournament.
