Men's Soccer Falls to Roger Williams on Final Minute Tally

WORCESTER, Mass. - Roger Williams senior captain David Majetich (Williamstown, Mass.) headed home his first goal of the season with 18 seconds to play as the Worcester State University men's soccer team suffered a heart-breaking 1-0 loss on Saturday afternoon at Coughlin Field.

With the loss, the Lancers fall to 1-2-1 on the season, while the Hawks remain unbeaten at 3-0-0.

The Hawks controlled much of the match, but Lancer goalkeeper Henri Guilmette (Franklin, Mass.) was on his game in net to keep his team alive. Roger Williams outshot the Lancers 11-1 in the opening half, but four saves by Guilmette kept the match scoreless.

Roger Williams had a glorious opportunity to take the lead in the 83rd minute, but again Guilmette came up huge for Worcester State. Junior Spencer Thibodeau (Cumberland, Maine) ripped a shot from the left side of the box, but Guilmette dove to his left to make the save. He was unable to corral the rebound, but dove across to deny Jordan Lach's (Norton, Mass.) rebound opportunity.

It appeared the match was headed to overtime, but in the game's final minute, the Hawks were awarded a free kick near the left corner flag and made no mistake. Lach curled an aerial cross into the box, and Majetich rose up unmarked to put it past Guilmette for the game-winning goal.

Guilmette finished the afternoon with seven saves in the loss, while junior Edmund Geschickter (Brookline, Mass.) made one save for the shutout for Roger Williams. The final shot total on the afternoon was 20-3 in favor of the Hawks.

Next up, the Lancers will be in action on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. kickoff against Mitchell College at Coughlin Field. The Hawks start a homestand on Sunday, hosting Husson at 2 p.m.
