Medford, MA --- Freshman sprinter Devlin Crawford (Braintree, MA) propelled the men's indoor track and field team to a fifth place finish on Saturday. Crawford qualified for the Division III New England Championships in the 400 meters (51.06) for fourth place before he finished fourth individually in the 200 (23.40).
The Lancers scored 56 team points while UMass Lowell bested the hosting Jumbos to win the meet with 201 points.
Crawford ended his solid day by helping the 4x400 relay team place third with a time of 3:35.80 along with senior RJ Stahelski (S. Deerfield, MA), sophomore Jon Parrella (Wilmington, MA) and teammate Tim Mazeika (Millbury, MA).
In the field freshman Andrew Johnson (Thompson, CT) cleared second in the high jump (1.86 meters) as classmate Brian Espinosa (Rehoboth, MA) tallied third in the triple jump (11.81m) and sixth in the long jump (5.96m).
Junior Nick Capone (Billerica, MA) tossed fifth in the shot put (12.95m) as sophomore Harrison McCann (Rutland, MA) caulked up sixth in the weight throw (14.24m).
First-year teammates Shawn McLaughlin (Foxboro, MA) and Michael Whalen (W. Springfield, MA) each tied for fifth in the high jump (1.66m) while sophomore Luke Curtis (Dudley, MA) recorded eighth in the long jump (5.67m).
Sophomore Julio Arzu (Lynn, MA) added sixth place in the 60 (7.29) while Rafael and classmate Kevin Maciel (Tewksbury, MA) each finished with season-best times for seventh (23.70) and eighth (23.90), respectively, in the 200.
Stahelski also notched seventh in the 600 with a time of 1:25.57. Rounding out the field was freshman Keenan Augustus (Somerville, MA) who placed ninth in the shot put (12.56m) and second-year Shawn McCabe (Mansfield, MA) who cleared 12.50 meters for tenth in the weight throw.
With his finishes this weekend Crawford is ranked fourth in DIII New England in the 400 and eighth in the 200.
Next week the Lancers will compete at the University of New Hampshire.
