Indoor Track & Field Competes in New England Regionals

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - The Worcester State University men's and women's indoor track & field teams competed Saturday in the NCAA Division III New England Regionals. The women's meet was held at Middlebury College, while the men's meet was hosted by Springfield College.

The lone male to compete was senior Eddy Acuna (Newton, Mass.), who placed third in the shot put at 15.31 meters. He was just 0.25 meters from New England champion John Rex of Bates College.

The 4x200 meter relay team was the Worcester State women's team's strongest showing of the weekend, as the quartet of Brooke Barriss (Melrose, Mass.), Abigail MacGregor (Salem, N.H.), Elena Pellegrini (Ashland, Mass.), and Avonia Herbert (Sharon, Mass.) placed third with a time of 1:44.79.

Freshman Maureen Grady (Douglas, Mass.) reached the final of the women's 60 meter dash on the day, placing eighth with a time of 8.00 seconds. MacGregor barely missed the final, running a 7.99 in the preliminaries to place ninth overall, while also placing eighth in the 200 meter ddash at 26.14 seconds.

Grady also competed in the long jump on the day, placing 10th with a leap of 5.29 meters.

The Lancers will next compete on Saturday at the Tufts Last Chance Qualifier in Medford, Mass.
