Fields, Leeds Help Lancers Place Third at Silfen Invitational

New London, CT --- The Worcester State men's outdoor track team placed third overall with 76.50 points at the Silfen Invitational hosted by Connecticut College. Coast Guard won the meet while UMass Dartmouth chipped in for second.

The Lancers were paced by freshman Ian Fields (Shrewsbury, MA) who clocked first in the 200 meter dash (23.12) and second in the 400 (50.73) while he also tied for fourth in the high jump (1.83 meters). In the 200 Fields punched his ticket for both the ECAC's and the Division III regionals.

Senior Matt Leeds (Bellingham, MA) also finished fourth in the long jump (6.39m) and fifth in the triple jump (13.06 m) to qualify for the New England Regionals.

Junior James Macera (Paxton, MA) threw third in the discus (34.74 m) and sixth in the shot put while senior Mark Johnson (Woburn, MA) added second place in the javelin throw (51.01 m).

The Lancers will compete again on Tuesday in the Holy Cross Invitational as a final tune up before the MASCAC/New England Alliance Championships.
