Strong Sprints, Field Events Lead Men's Outdoor Track At UMass Lowell Invitational

 

Lowell, MA --- Sophomore Duy Truong (Worcester, MA/Doherty) sprinted to fourth in the 110 meter hurdles (16.07) while classmate Matthew Alley (Milford, MA) notched fifth in the 100 (11.30) and sixth in the 200 (23.41) as both helped lead the Worcester State men's outdoor track and field team at the George Davis UMass Lowell Invitational.

The non-scoring meet featured top competition from several Division II and III institutions from around New England.

Senior Jon Parrella (Wilington, MA), junior Kevin Maciel (Tewksbury, MA) and fourth-year Kerry Sabanty (Stoughton, MA) finished fourth (57.75), fifth (58.82) and seventh (1:00.64) in the 400 meter hurdles as senior Tim Mazeika (Millbury, MA) posted an outdoor season-best time of 1:59.33 in the 800.

In the field, sophomore Mario De Jesus (Lawrence, MA) had a toss of fourth in the javelin (163-4/49.49m), which was less than eight feet away from the Division III New England standard.

Junior Andrew Johnson (Thompson, CT) cleared fifth in the high jump (6-2/1.88m) while classmate Steve Fleming (Ludlow, MA) tallied sixth in the pole vault (12-11.50/3.95m).

Troung was also fourth in the long jump (21-05.25/6.53m) and eighth in the triple jump (40-8.25/12.40m).

Freshman Benjamin Dussault (Assonet, MA) clocked ninth in the 200 (23.54) and senior Luke Curtis (Dudley, MA) had a time of 16th in the 100 (11.61).

Junior Jeremy Ross (Holden, MA) registered seventh in the javelin (159-1/48.49m) while senior Sebastian Bilentschuk (Mansfield, MA) added eighth in the hammer (142-05/43.40m) and freshman Al Mandragouras (Newbury, MA) was eighth in the discus (128-10/39.27m).

Second-year Parris Nathan (Randolph, MA) rounded out the competators with 10th in the shot put (38-6/11.73m).

Next week the Blue and Gold will compete at UMass Amherst.
