Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Kicks Off 2022 Season

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Kyle Haley (Mansfield, Mass.) took sixth overall in the long jump as the Worcester State men's outdoor track and field team opened their season on Saturday at the Bridgewater State Bears Invitational.

Haley finished with a final jump of 6.17m, bettering his seed score.

Robert Doig (Ashby, Mass.) was 14th in the men's 400-meter finishing the race in 57.29, while Daniel Clark was 12th in the 800 meters (2:09.74).

Wayne Carey (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Drew Fottler (Chelmsford, Mass.) were both top-10 finishers in the 5,000 meters. Carey was ninth in 16:41.43, and Fottler was one spot behind him in 16:41.47.

The Lancers were also well represented in throwing events, where Jack Houlihan (Holden, Mass.) placed 13th overall in the discus (33.47m) and 16th in the hammer throw (34.22m).

Matt Long (East Bridgewater, Mass.) took 30th in hammer, and was 15th overall in the javelin, with a final throw of 42.87.

As a team, Worcester State was 11th in the 4x100 meter relay, with a team comprised of Haley, Brendan Sharkey (Fort Wayne, Ind.), Anthony Paolucci and Giovanni Casiano.

The Lancers are back in action next Saturday when they travel to UMass Dartmouth for the Corsair Classic.
