HALEY, FOTTLER LEAD WAY AT MEN'S MASCAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

WORCESTER, Mass., -- Worcester State University Men's Outdoor Track and Field team had two individual first place finishes, as the team placed 5th overall at the MASCAC Championships held at Bridgewater State University on Saturday afternoon at Swenson Field. Senior standout Drew Fottler (Chelmsford, MA) won the 3,000m steeplechase while senior jumper Kyle Haley (Mansfield, MA) placed first overall in the men's triple jump.

Haley's triple jump of 13.37m edged out Westfield's Eric Shimiyimana by .07-meters. Haley was one of just two jumpers in the 13-meter range on the afternoon. Haley also placed 3rd overall in the men's long jump with a distance of 6.39-meters. 

Fottler ran a blazing 9:59.92 in the men's 3,000m steeplechase to take first overall. His first-place finish was nearly a second faster than the second place finisher. Fottler also picked up a 3rd place finish in the men's 5,000-meter Run with a time of 16:17.41

The men's 4x100 relay group of Giovanni Casiano, Kyle Haley, Anthony Paolucci and Brendan Sharkey finished 3rd overall with a time of 46.18, picking up 6 points for the Lancers. 

Other finishes included:

  • Daniel Clark placed 5th in the men's 800-meter Run with a time of 2:05.77.
  • Wayne Carey picked up a 5th place finish in the men's 5,000-meter Run with a time of 16:52.40.
  • The men's 4x400 Relay team of Daniel Clark, Robert Doig, Ethan Goodreau and Brian O'Leary finished 5th with a time of 3:50.37
  • Ethan Goodreau placed 8th in the men's 1500-meter Run with a time of 4:35.36.
  • Matthew Long finished 9th in men's javelin, with a best distance of 41.33m. 
  • Elias Boone finished 9th in the men's 5,000-meter Run with a time of 17:33.65. 

Worcester State finished the event in 5th place with total of 48 points on the afternoon.

Three Lancers will head to Williams College on Friday, May 6th to compete in the New England DIII Championships: Drew Fottler (Steeplechase), Kyle Haley (Triple Jump) and Colin Brennan (Javelin).
