
Worcester, MA- Worcester State jumped right back into competition this weekend, traveling North to Plymouth State to compete in the Panther Invite. The Lancers were led by senior Brodie Jacques (Rehoboth, MA) who claimed second in the long jump helping to accrue 21 points for Worcester State on a seventh place finish on the day's action.
Jacques would lead the Lancers in the long jump with a second place finish at 6.63m, leading his Worcester State teammates of senior Nicholas Violette (Webster, MA) in 18th at 5.38m, first year Anthonio Tyndale (Worcester, MA) at 19th with a 5.31m leap. Fellow first year James Almeida (Auburn, MA) would claim 21st on a 4.89m measurement just ahead of senior Giovanni Casiano in 23rd on a 4.58m mark. Jacques would also record a personal best in the 60m in the preliminary race of 7.02 to add to his success on the day.
Additional speed on the day was found in the 200m with first year Yael Lopez (Milford, MA) placing 27th with a time of 24.59 while fellow teammates sophomore Tyshawn Craigg (Springfield, MA) claimed 32nd 2ith a 24.88, first year Albert Kyereme (Springfield, MA) would take home 35th at 25.14. Junior Alan Gomez (Clinton, MA) would come in 43rd with a 25.56 time just edging out Violette in 49th at 26.61. Gomez would record an additional 26th place finish in the 400m with a time of 57.79 alongside a sprinting senior Brian O'Leary (Marlborough, MA) in 27th at 57.92. Joining the duo was first year Ryan Brown who took home 30th with a 59.58.
As the distance got longer, the speed did not diminish for Worcester as first year Taku Pettengill (Shirley, MA) would take home 13th in the 800m with a time of 2:12.07, just getting ahead of sophomore Jacksen Bolduc (Auburn, MA) who ended in 14th on a 2:12.53 race. Junior Andrew Stokes (Wilmington, MA) would wrap up the race in 17th with a time of 2:29.96. The mile would see another race off for the Lancers as senior Alexander Lucier (Garder, MA) would just edge out sophomore Kelan Mahoney in 13th at a time of 4:48.89 to Mahoney's 4:50.87 in 14th. In the longest race of the day, the 5,000m, first year Dan Smith (Medway, MA) would also take home 13th with a time of 17:27.10 while junior Alex Matsuyasu (Newton, MA) finished in 17th in 18:24.87.
The relay circuit would bring in the teamwork as 4x200m team of first year James Almeida (Auburn, MA), O'Leary, Pettengill and junior Connor Dufault (Brookfield, MA) would claim 8th with a 1:44.15. The 4x800m team of Brown, Lucier, Mahoney and Bolduc would find even greater success, claiming third in an 8:59.26 time.
Further success joined the long jump contingent as first year Jakai Bellofatto claimed 10th in the high jump with a 1.70m height as fellow first year Michael Mireku (Worcester, MA) claimed 4th in the triple jump with a leap of 12.74m.
In the throwing pit sophomore Garrett Papierski would have double success with an 8th place finish on 12.05m in the weight throw and 10th in the shot put with a 12.15m mark. First year Gavin Delgado (Douglas, MA) joined the shot put battle with a 14th place finish on 11.67m. Senior Max O'Connor (Dedham, MA) would lead the rest of the weight throw crew with a 10.83m landing, leading junior Andrew Lucier (Gardner, MA) in 30th with an 8.75m toss and first year Hunter Cormier (Westminster, MA) in 31st at 7.49m.
The Lancers are back in action next Friday, when they head down to Coast Guard for a Friday fun meet, a rare afternoon treat for the squad.
