Worcester, MA- In the first meet of the outdoor season the Worcester Track and Field team journey to UMass-Dartmouth to compete in the Corsairs invitational. The Lancers were led by senior Brodie Jacques (Rehoboth, MA) who grabbed the 2nd spot in long jump as Worcester State recorded 27 points with the day's events.
Jacques would lead the way in the long jump with a 6.35m leap just edging out first year Anthonio Tyndala (Worcester, MA) who came in seventh with a 5.90m mark. In a 25th, 26th, 28th and 29th place grouping was senior Nicholas Violette (Webster, MA) with a 5.19m, junior Seth Boudreau (Douglas, MA) who tied him but on his second leap for a 5.19m, senior Giovanni Casiano (Oxford, MA) with a 5.12m and first year James Almeida (Auburn, MA) with a 4.87m. Violette would also claim seventh in the pole vault, reaching 2.45m on the day. First year Michael Mireku (Worcester, MA) would claim third in the triple jump on a distance of 12.42m just ahead of Tommy Silve in 10th with 11.10m.
In the throwing circle sophomore Garrett Papierski (Webster, MA) would take home seventh in the shot put on a 12.96m throw along with a 20th in the hammer on 30.78m and to round out the day a 13th of 33.11m in the discus. Senior Max O'Connor (Dedham, MA) would take home 18th in the shot by just .01m, edging out first year Gavin Delgado (Douglas, MA) who recorded an 11.27m in the shot and a 10th place, 34.85m, in the discus. O'Connor would also claim 13th in the hammer with a 37.68, and a fourth in the discus on a 39.90m toss with first year Hunter Cormier (Westmininster, MA) claiming 17th with a 33.26m in the shot and 27th with a 27.62m in the discus. Closing out the hammer was junior Andrew Lucier (Gardner, MA) with 26th on a 26.29m landing. Lucier would also claim 21s in the javelin with a reach of 38.33m while first year Zachary Stewart took home 27th with a 25.42m.
The quick spring would see sophomore Tyshawnn Craigg (Springfield, MA) claim 18th in 11.64 seconds while first years Albert Kyereme (Springfield, MA) and Yael Lopez (Milford, MA) went 36tha dn 39th with 12.07 and 12.17 seconds. Fellow first year Nicholas St. George (Grafton, MA) claimed 53rd on 12.89 and just beating the 13 seconds was sophomore Khalijiah King (Natick, MA) in 54th with a 12.96.
The 400m had another strong contingent as first year Michael Mireku claimed 16th with a 54.17 seconds just ahead of senior Brian O'Leary (Marlborough, MA) in 22nd with 55.74 and first years Taku Pettengill (Shirley, MA) with 25th at 56.90 and Ryan Brown (Salem, MA) in 28th with a 57.53. Sophomore Jacksen Bolduc (Auburn, MA) would take home 30th on 58.24 while first year Patrick Harvey (Holden, MA) claimed 32nd in 60.76 and junior Andrew Stokes (Wilmington, MA) took home 34th with a 63.61.
Senior Alexander Lucier (Gardner, MA) would be the solo competitor in the 800m and 1,500m for Worcester finishing in 23rd at 2:12.89 and 22nd in 4:24.02. In the 10,000m junior Alex Matsuyasu (Newton, MA) and first year Dan Smith would race it out with Smith claiming seventh in 37:03.95 and Matsuyasu in 10th at 38:30.88. Sophomore Kelan Mahoney (Oakham, MA) would finish the 5,000 in 21st in a time of 17:34.47.
The 200m would see Bolduc again in action for 52nd with a 26.00, Brown with a 49th at 25.76, Kyereme in 28th at 24.18. O'Leary and Pettengill would run it out for 47th and 48th with times of 25.58 and 25.71 while Tommy Silva andTyndale would go 55th and 53rd at 26.97 and 26.50 in the half lap race.
Worcester State is back in action next Friday when they compete at Regis in the Regis Spring Classic.
