Phillips Earns Co-ECAC New England Men's Rookie of the Week

Danbury, CT --- Freshman Brady Phillips (Uxbridge, MA) has been selected as this week's Corvais Co-ECAC Division III New England Rookie of the Week for his tremendous performance at the Worcester City Cross Country Meet.

Phillips was the top collegiate finisher with a time of 28:09 over the 8k layout on the Lancers home course at Moore State Park at the Worcester City Meet while leading the Blue and Gold to a fourth place finish as a squad.

For Phillips it marked the first career win for the first-year student-athlete. His other two individual performances on the season have included being the top finisher for WSU at the Smith Invitational with 22nd place in a field of 116 (30:06) as he walked away with 77th out of 255 entrants with a split of 26:59.30 at the UMass Dartmouth Shriners Invitational.

Phillips is the first Lancer to win a large collegiate invitational since Forest Wilber won the Emmanuel Saints Invitational on October 17, 2008 at Franklin Park. Wilber was also the last winner of the collegiate Worcester City Cross Country race in 2007 with a sensational time of 27:12 on the original course design.

Earlier on Monday, Phillips was tabbed MASCAC Rookie of the Week. He shares the ECAC accolade with Dan McSolla (Bridgewater, MA) of Wentworth.

Worcester State will continue their season next week at the Tri-States Invitational hosted by CCRI on their Lincoln, Rhode Island campus course.
