WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Worcester State University men's and women's cross country teams each competed Saturday afternoon in the Purple Valley Classic, hosted by Williams College at Mount Greylock Regional High School. The women's team finished in 11th place out of 14 teams competing, while the men came in 16th out of 19 teams.
Leading the women was senior Elisabeth Olson (Wilmington, Mass.), who finished the 6k course in 24:35.2, good for a 36th place finish. Sophomore Ryann Molinari (Grafton, Mass.) was Worcester's second finisher with a 51st place time of 25:27.9. Sophomore Kasey Clark (Dudley, Mass.) crossed the finish line in 61st place and a time of 26:01.5.
Placing fourth on the Lancers was senior Megan Foley (Orange, Conn.) with a time of 26:18.1, while junior Kyra Siano (North Attleboro, Mass.) rounded out Worcester State's scorers with a time of 26:31.9.
On the men's side, sophomore Wayne Carey (Shrewsbury, Mass.) was the top Lancer on the day, placing 71st overall with an 8k time of 28:45.4. Classmates Patrick Carleton (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Drew Fottler (Chelmsford, Mass.) finished second and third respectively for the Lancers, with times of 29:05.5 and 30:07.8.
Placing fourth for Worcester State was junior Brian King (Stow, Mass.) with a time of 30:20.3, while senior Richie Custodio (Wakefield, Mass.) placed fifth at 32:16.5.
Worcester State will return to the trails on October 12 for the James Earley Invitational at Westfield's Stanley Park.
