Worcester, MA- In his second season leading the Worcester State University Cross Country teams, Head Coach Scott Vandermolen is pleased to announce the 2024 competition schedule. After a transition year last season that saw Vandermolen step into the lead role as full time coach for cross country and track and field, the Men’s and Women’s teams are aiming to climb back to the top of the MASCAC and come away with a championship and a plethora of top finishes in their bid for an appearance at NCAAs. The Women’s team will be led by top recording juniors Leah Berg and Claudia Symonick while the men will have the return talents of senior Matt Talbot and Matt Talbot and sophomore Jacksen Bolduc.
“Last year was a great learning experience for all of us” says Vandermolen. “The athletes did a great job setting a foundation for the future of the program. We have some exciting new runners joining the team and we’re very excited about the 2024 season.”
The Cross-Country season will begin on the first day of the NCAA competition on August 31st when they travel to Keene State for their opening meet. The following weekend will see them journey to Wesleyan on September 7th before taking a week off from competition before heading to UMass Dartmouth on the 21st. The Lancers will take a further two weeks off before beginning to prep for the MASCAC Championship with a journey on October 12th to Westfield State. The 19th will have the squad staying west as they head to Western New England University in their final training meet of the season. The first Weekend in November will kick off the post season as the team heads to the MASCAC Championship. The 16th will be leg in in their bid for the NCAA Championship as they compete at the NCAA Regionals with any qualifiers advancing on the 23rd to the NCAA Championship.
