Lancers Go 1-1 on Day Four of Spring Break Action

Worcester, MA- After a strong start to the week the Worcester State Softball team is looking to continue their dominant presence on the back end of their Spring Break trip as they take on Coe College and Augsburg State in a Thursday morning battle at Legends Way in Florida.

Final

Game 1

Worcester State: 2

Coe: 9

Game 2

Worcester State: 6

Augsburg University: 5

How it Happened:

Worcester had a slow start in game on action after scoring the opening run in the game after senior Emma Lanpher (Charlton, MA) would steal home while a play was being made to nab junior Morgan Keefe (Dracut, MA) at second. The Kohawks would then record a total of five runs in the next  four innings to grab a 5-1 lead. Worcester would tack on a second run in the sixth in bid to get back into the action off a junior Carisa Andrews (Medfield, MA) single to right field would allow junior Bella Gasbarro (Leominster, MA), who had a deep double to right earlier, to cross the plate. But the Coe defense was nabbing each of the Lancer attempts to work the deficit down for the rest of the sixth before tacking on four additional runs in the bottom of the inning. Worcester would try to keep the game going and send Koe back up to the plate, but the Kohawk defense had a read on the Lancer attempts, claiming the 9-2 victory.

The second game of the day would see the team settle down and keep the game scoreless through four with Augsburg University. The fifth would see each team putting runs on the board. Augsburg would nab three while a junior Amanda Adamuska (Dudley, MA) double would get an early runner on followed by a sophomore Cali Brouillard (Millbury, MA) walk. Lanpher would come to the plate with two outs already on the board to record a single to bring in Adamuska. On a run down play at the next at bat, Brouilard would manage to play a bit of chicken to steal home and run two.

Augsburg would add another two in the top of the sixth in a hope of holding onto the win, but Worcester was ready for the charge. First year Laurel Field (Webster, MA) would be walked to lead off the bottom of the sixth where a senior Abigail Koziol (Luneburg, MA) single would get two runners on early. Gasbarro would add some action in the first three at bats to load the bases for an Adamuska triple that would give Worcester the 5-4 lead. Brouillard would follow it up with a ground out that would give Adamuska the time to run number six on the game. The top of the seventh saw one additional run in the comeback bid for Augsburg but they would fall shy as senior Sarah Gosselin (Charlton, MA) would pitch her way to the Lancers game two victory.
