Women's Lacrosse Defeated By Gordon At Home, 18-6

 

Worcester, MA --- Gordon junior Anna Blomberg (Simsbury, CT) collected a career-best 10 points with six goals and four helpers to help propel the Fighting Scots to a 18-6 triumph over Worcester State in non-conference women's lacrosse action this evening.

For Gordon (11-2), third-year Stephanie Fitzgerald (Groveland, MA) added five goals and one assist while freshman Bailey Grinell (S. Hamilton, MA) notched a hat-trick. Fitzgerald also had a game-best seven draws for the vistors.

For the Lancers (8-4), freshman Jackie Connors (Ashland, MA) had a squad-high two markers as junior Vicki O'Brien (Canton, MA) and sophomore Molly Kilday (Westford, MA) both had one goal and one dish apiece.

First-year Katelyn Murphy (Billerica, MA) paced the Blue and Gold defensively with six ground balls and four forced miscues. Sophomore Angela Grassetti (Agawam, MA) added two ground balls and a trio of draws.

WSU rookie Kalia Chase (Northbridge, MA) potted the first goal of the game before Gordon went on an 8-0 run over the next 15 minutes of game-time. Fitzgerald and Blomberg both had a trio of goals in the outburst.

O'Brien, Kilday and Connors all scored in a 3-1 spurt for the Lancers to trail 9-4 with 7:45 remaining in the opening frame, but the Fighting Scots gave themselves the eight-goal lead at the intermission with markers by Blomberg and freshman Jessica Castelline (Concord, MA).

In the second half, Gordon outscored the hosts 7-2 with running time on their side as Grinnell and Fitzgerald both hit home goals in the final stanza.

Junior Danielle Maguire (Braintree, MA) stopped seven shots for the visitors in her 43:12 of action before she was relieved by Julianne Kirkpatrick (Rochester, NY). saved two shots in the final 16:48.

Senior Alex Chisholm (N. Brookfield, MA) collected three stops in the setback for the Lancers.
Gordon led in shots (26-16), shots on goal (21-15) and they dominated draws, 17-9. The Fighting Scots also were 13-for-15 on clear attempts.

Worcester State led in ground balls (22-20) and caused miscues (11-7), but struggled to get the ball out of their own defensive zone as they were 8-for-16 on clears.

In upcoming action, the Lancers will play Mass Maritime at 1 o'clock on Saturday while Gordon travels to Nichols for their regular season finale at 4 PM at Nichols.
