Jarvis Records 100th Point in Win over the Saints

Worcester, MA- Worcester State was back in action on Monday night looking to make it two straight as they played host to Emmanuel College in a Monday night thriller.

The Lancers won the initial face off and within 14 seconds senior Clare Conway (Billerica, MA) found the back of the net jumping ahead to an early 1-0 against the Saints. This early goal was quickly followed up by another attempt on goal that resulted in a foul and the ability for the Lancers to maintain possession saw the ball find its way into the back of the net. A 2-goal lead within 3 minutes was certainly the start the Lancers were looking for against this tough competition.

A number of minutes clicked off the clock before senior Savanna Rosado (Milford, MA) was called upon to record her first save of the day as a stellar Lancers defense worked to keep the threats away. Senior Shay Jarvis (Auburn, MA) recorded her 100th career point after another transition period as the Lancer's midfield used their natural running ability to run the stretch. The Emmanuel Saints eventually woke up and scored off a good half-field set play. This made the scoreline 3-1 with about 8 minutes to go in the first quarter.

After the Saint's initial 1st quarter goal there was about a 5-minute period of back and forth play between the two squads. Both keepers made some excellent saves during this period. As the game naturally slowed down more and more was asked for both teams' defensive personnel.

The scoreline going into the 2nd period was 3-1.

First year Cailey Ryan (Acton, MA) in her familiar role in the circle had the rare moment of her times at the draw, losing the second-quarter face-off. After the Lancers lost this match-up, there was a goal-scoring opportunity from a foul in a goal-scoring area but Rosado made her fifth save of the day and this allowed the Lancers to launch a powerful counterattack. The Lancers scored two quick goals within 3 minutes. A wonderful long shot by senior Lily Gendron (Lakeville, MA) saw the lead balloon to 6-1. The Saints continued to get in foul trouble and saw three free plays which eventually led to a graduate student Clare Conway (Billerica, MA)  goal. The Saints attempted multiple shots on the Lancer's net in a comeback bid that could have warranted a goal but Rosado was on another level. A quick counter with a minute and 35 seconds left to go saw the number of goals go settle at 8 for Worcester State. Another goal was added to the tally by first year Abigail Vincent (Lakeville, MA) with just four seconds remaining in the half.

The 3rd quarter saw a number of underclassmen introduced to the match which brought a burst of energy from both sides. The Saints saw one of their own score a hat trick in the third quarter while the Lancers managed to add goals of their own. The score line entering the 4th quarter was 13 to 5 in the Lancer's favor.

Entering the 4th quarter the Lancers managed to claim the draw leading to MASCAC three-time Rookie of the Week Mikayla Fisher (Peabody, MA) drawing a foul earning a free play on the right side of the field and scoring the 14th goal of the day for the Lancers. Emmanuel managed to score a conciliation goal with about 14 seconds left in the game as the match ended with some outstanding displays from both teams but at the end of the day the Lancers were victorious.

The Lancers (4-5, 1-0) are back in action on Wednesday as they travel to Wellesley College for a 6pm start.
