Women's Soccer Falls In Double Overtime Loss To Clark

Clark 1, Worcester State 0   OT

Worcester, MA --- Senior Kristen Murrone (Middletown, CT) scored the game-winning goal less than three minutes into the first overtime, lifting host Clark past Worcester State on Saturday afternoon in women's soccer action on Granger Field.

Murrone's goal, which came at the 92:45 mark, pushes the Cougars' record to 3-1 on the season, while the Lancers fall to 1-2-1.

Worcester State seemed to have the best scoring chances in the contest but each time it looked as if they would break through, Clark netminder Joanna Clark (Windham, ME) made a save, including one on Gaby Gonet (Agawam, MA) in the 62nd minute.

Clark got the game winner following a cross towards the goal that was punched out to the top of the box by Lancer netminder Rachael Armenti (West Boylston, MA). The ball rolled right to Murrone, who had time to settle it and fire a shot to the back left corner of the net over an outstretched Armenti.

Worcester State held a slight edge in shots (7-4) and Armenti turned back three shots while the Clark made four stops for the Cougars to collect her second shutout of the season.

Clark won't return to the field until Wednesday when they visit Lasell College, while the Lancers are back in action on Tuesday at WPI.
